1 Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("user", "you") and OwuMode ("we", "us", "our") regarding your use of the ChainVerifier software application and the owumode.store website (collectively, "the Service").

By downloading, installing, or using ChainVerifier, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must immediately stop using the software and delete all copies from your device.

Plain English: If you use ChainVerifier, you agree to these rules. If you don't agree, don't use it — it's that simple.

2 License Grant

ChainVerifier is released under a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license for personal and educational use.

You are granted the right to:

  • Download and install ChainVerifier on any number of personal devices you own
  • Use ChainVerifier for personal, non-commercial purposes
  • Use ChainVerifier for educational, research, or reverse-engineering purposes
  • Create backup copies of the software for your own use
  • Modify the source code for personal use (source is publicly available on GitHub)

You are NOT granted the right to:

  • Sell, resell, or sublicense ChainVerifier or its derivatives
  • Bundle ChainVerifier with paid products without written permission
  • Remove or alter copyright notices, branding, or attribution
  • Distribute modified versions under the ChainVerifier name
  • Claim authorship of ChainVerifier or any substantial portion of it
Commercial use: If you wish to use ChainVerifier commercially (e.g., in a paid product, internal business tool, or SaaS offering), please contact us first via Telegram.

3 Permitted Use

ChainVerifier is designed for legitimate purposes such as:

  • Learning reverse engineering — understanding how software manages memory
  • Single-player game modding — adjusting your own game experience offline
  • Debugging your own software — inspecting your own applications
  • Security research — analyzing malware or suspicious processes in isolated environments
  • Educational projects — academic coursework, tutorials, personal learning
  • Accessibility tools — creating assistive overlays for games you own
Rule of thumb: If you're modifying a program on your own computer, for your own use, without harming others — you're probably fine.

4 Prohibited Use

You agree NOT to use ChainVerifier for any of the following:

Prohibited Activity Why
Cheating in multiplayer or competitive online games Violates game ToS and harms other players
Bypassing anti-cheat (EAC, BattlEye, Vanguard, etc.) Illegal and against platform terms
Unauthorized access to systems you don't own Criminal offense in most jurisdictions
Malware development or distribution Strictly illegal worldwide
Circumventing software licensing or DRM Violates DMCA and similar laws
Attacking, stalking, or harassing individuals Unethical and potentially criminal
Modifying critical systems (banking, medical, etc.) Dangerous and illegal
Reselling ChainVerifier as your own product Violates the license terms above
Important: You are solely responsible for how you use ChainVerifier. Any illegal or unethical use is entirely your responsibility, and we will cooperate with law enforcement if legally required.

5 Third-Party Applications

ChainVerifier can attach to and modify other running processes. This section clarifies responsibility:

You acknowledge that:

  • ChainVerifier is a general-purpose tool — it works with any Windows process you have permission to access
  • We do not endorse, support, or encourage cheating in any specific game
  • We are not affiliated with any game developer, publisher, or platform
  • Using ChainVerifier with a game may violate that game's Terms of Service and could result in a ban
  • Anti-cheat systems may block or flag ChainVerifier — this is expected behavior

Your responsibility:

Before using ChainVerifier with any third-party software, you must:

  1. Read and understand that software's Terms of Service
  2. Ensure your use does not violate any agreements you've accepted
  3. Accept full responsibility for any consequences (bans, account loss, etc.)
We are not responsible if you get banned from a game, locked out of an account, or face legal action from a software vendor due to your use of ChainVerifier. That's on you.

6 Intellectual Property

Our rights

ChainVerifier, including its name, logo, source code, documentation, and website content, is the intellectual property of OwuMode and is protected by copyright laws.

Your content

You retain all rights to:

  • Chain files (.owu) you create
  • Scan results, exports, and reports you generate
  • Any notes, descriptions, or custom configurations you add

We claim no ownership over your work. Your files stay on your machine, and we never see them.

Trademarks

"ChainVerifier" and "OwuMode" are trademarks of OwuMode. You may not use these names to endorse or promote derivative products without written permission.

7 Disclaimer of Warranty

ChainVerifier is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without warranty of any kind, express or implied.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including:

  • Merchantability — no guarantee it's fit for commercial use
  • Fitness for a particular purpose — no guarantee it does what you need
  • Non-infringement — no guarantee it doesn't conflict with third-party rights
  • Accuracy — scan results may be incorrect or incomplete
  • Reliability — the app may crash, freeze, or corrupt data
  • Availability — updates, downloads, or servers may be unavailable

We do not warrant that ChainVerifier will be error-free, virus-free (beyond our own build), or compatible with every system configuration.

8 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, OwuMode and its contributors shall not be liable for any damages arising from your use of ChainVerifier, including but not limited to:

  • Data loss, corruption, or unavailability
  • Loss of game progress, accounts, or in-game purchases
  • System instability, crashes, or blue screens
  • Hardware damage caused by memory manipulation
  • Bans, suspensions, or account terminations from third-party platforms
  • Legal consequences of prohibited use
  • Any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
Since ChainVerifier is free, our total liability to you is zero dollars. You're using it at your own risk.

9 Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless OwuMode and its contributors from any claims, damages, losses, or legal fees arising from:

  • Your use or misuse of ChainVerifier
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights (including game ToS)
  • Any illegal or harmful activity you perform with the software

In plain English: if you do something bad with ChainVerifier and get sued, you can't drag us into it.

10 Antivirus & False Positives

Memory scanning tools are frequently flagged by antivirus software as PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program), hacktool, or riskware. This is a known false positive caused by the tool's nature, not by any malicious code.

Similarly, Windows SmartScreen may warn that the EXE is from an unknown publisher because it is unsigned. This is expected — click More info then Run anyway to proceed.

Why this happens:

  • ChainVerifier reads and writes other processes' memory
  • Antivirus heuristics flag any program that does this
  • Legitimate tools like Cheat Engine, Process Hacker, and x64dbg face the same issue

What we do:

  • Source code is publicly available on GitHub for inspection
  • No obfuscation, no hidden behavior, no network calls except update checks
  • We encourage submitting the binary to VirusTotal for verification
If your antivirus flags ChainVerifier, you can add an exclusion for the folder. If you're not comfortable doing that, don't use the tool — that's a valid choice.

11 Updates & Modifications

Software updates

We may release updates at any time. Updates are provided under the same license and terms. You are never forced to update — older versions remain functional, though we only support the latest. As of v2.0.0, updates are announced via Windows native notifications with the ChainVerifier logo.

Terms changes

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. When we do:

  • The "Last updated" date will change
  • Material changes will be noted in the Changelog
  • Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance

If you disagree with new Terms, your only recourse is to stop using ChainVerifier.

12 Termination

This license is effective until terminated. It terminates automatically if you:

  • Violate any part of these Terms
  • Use ChainVerifier for illegal purposes
  • Attempt to commercially distribute it without permission

You may terminate this agreement at any time by:

  • Uninstalling ChainVerifier from all devices
  • Deleting all copies of the software and associated files

Upon termination, all rights granted to you cease immediately. Sections regarding intellectual property, disclaimers, and liability survive termination.

13 Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of ChainVerifier shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation first. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in India.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

Entire agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and OwuMode regarding ChainVerifier.
