1 Overview

ChainVerifier ("we", "our", "the app") is a free Windows desktop application developed by OwuMode and distributed through owumode.store. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

Short version: ChainVerifier does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal information. The desktop app works fully offline. The only data we receive is anonymous visitor counts on this website.

By using ChainVerifier or visiting owumode.store, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the software or the website.

2 Data We Collect

We believe in minimal data collection. Here's exactly what we do and do not collect:

What we DO NOT collect

  • No personal information — no names, emails, phone numbers, or addresses
  • No account data — no registration, no login, no user accounts
  • No payment info — the app is completely free, we never ask for payment details
  • No file contents — we never access the memory you scan, the chains you save, or the processes you attach to
  • No location data — no GPS, IP-based geolocation, or country tracking
  • No biometric data — no fingerprints, face data, or voice
  • No behavioral tracking — no heatmaps, no session recordings, no click tracking

What we DO collect (minimal)

Data Type Purpose Storage
Anonymous visitor count Display total visits on the website JSONBin.io (cloud)
Browser language preference Remember if you chose EN or HI Your browser (localStorage)
Update check (GitHub API) Fetch latest version info GitHub (public data)
Local log files Diagnostic troubleshooting on your machine Your computer only
Auto-save backups Recover your chain files after a crash Your computer only
The visitor counter is a single number. It does not track individual users, IP addresses, or sessions. We cannot tell who visited or how many times you personally visited.

3 How We Use Data

The minimal data we collect is used only for these purposes:

  • Visitor counter: To display a total visit count on the website — a vanity metric, nothing more.
  • Language preference: To remember whether you selected English or Hindi, so you don't have to re-select on every page.
  • Update checks: To notify you when a new version of ChainVerifier is available on GitHub.
  • Local logs: To help you (or us) diagnose issues if you report a bug and share your log file.

We never use this data for:

  • Advertising or marketing
  • Profiling or behavioral analysis
  • Selling or sharing with third parties
  • Training AI or machine learning models

4 Desktop Application

ChainVerifier is a fully offline desktop application. This section explains exactly how it handles your data.

Local processing only

All memory scanning, pointer chain verification, freezing, and hex editing happens entirely on your machine. No memory contents, addresses, or process data ever leave your computer.

Your saved files (.owu)

Chain files you save are stored locally wherever you choose. They are encrypted with XOR + SHA-256 + zlib compression. We have no access to these files and cannot recover them if lost.

Auto-save backups

The v2.0.0 auto-save feature creates timestamped backup copies of your chain files in your chosen save location. These backups are local-only and follow the same encryption. You can disable auto-save or adjust the interval in Settings → File & Logs.

Local log files

ChainVerifier writes diagnostic log files to a local folder on your machine. These logs rotate automatically and never leave your computer unless you choose to share them when reporting a bug.

Internet connections

ChainVerifier makes network requests only when:

  • You click Check for Updates (or on startup, if auto-check is enabled)
  • You manually open a link (GitHub, Telegram, etc.)

These requests go only to api.github.com to fetch the latest release tag. No telemetry, no analytics, no crash reports are sent.

Administrator privileges

ChainVerifier requires Administrator rights only to read/write memory of other processes — a Windows requirement. These privileges are never used for any other purpose.

You can fully verify this yourself. ChainVerifier is distributed as readable Python and C++ code. You can monitor network activity with Wireshark, Fiddler, or Windows Resource Monitor to confirm the app only contacts GitHub.

5 Website & Cookies

The owumode.store website is a static site. Here's how it handles data:

Cookies

We do not use cookies for tracking, advertising, or analytics. We use localStorage only for:

  • Language preference — remembers EN or HI selection
  • Visitor deduplication — prevents counting the same browser twice per session
  • "What's New" seen version — remembers which version popup you dismissed

Server logs

Like all websites, our hosting provider may keep standard server access logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent). These logs are used only for security and abuse prevention, and are typically deleted within 30 days.

Do Not Track

Since we don't track you anyway, we honor all "Do Not Track" signals by default — no special handling needed.

6 Third-Party Services

We use a small number of third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

Service Purpose Data Shared
GitHub Hosting releases, source code, and update checks Public IP (standard HTTP)
JSONBin.io Storing anonymous visitor count Anonymous number only
Telegram Community support (only if you click the link) Whatever Telegram collects

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any advertising trackers.

7 Data Retention

Since we collect almost nothing, there's almost nothing to retain:

  • Visitor counter: Kept indefinitely (it's just a cumulative number)
  • Language preference: Stored in your browser until you clear it
  • Server logs: Automatically deleted by hosting provider within 30 days
  • Local files (chains, backups, logs): 100% under your control — you can delete them anytime

8 Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we handle:

  • HTTPS everywhere — all website traffic and API calls use TLS encryption
  • No credentials stored — there are no user accounts, so no passwords to leak
  • Encrypted .owu files — your chains are protected with XOR + SHA-256 + zlib
  • Open source transparency — the app's network behavior is verifiable

However, no system is 100% secure. Since we don't store personal data, a breach would expose almost nothing of value.

9 Children's Privacy

ChainVerifier is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect any data from children. If you believe a child has used the app, there is nothing for us to delete — we hold no personal data.

10 Your Rights

Depending on your location (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you may have the following rights:

  • Right to access — you can request what data we hold about you (answer: virtually none)
  • Right to deletion — you can request deletion of your data (answer: nothing to delete)
  • Right to opt out — clear your browser's localStorage to remove all locally stored preferences
  • Right to portability — export your own .owu files anytime (they're on your disk)
  • Right to complain — contact your local data protection authority if you believe we've violated your rights
Because we don't collect personal data, most rights are trivially satisfied — there's nothing to access, delete, or transfer.

11 Policy Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do:

  • The "Last updated" date at the top will change
  • Material changes will be announced in the Changelog
  • Continued use after changes means you accept the new policy

We recommend checking this page occasionally. Given how little data we handle, major changes are unlikely.
